CONCEPT

The year 2025 marks the 27th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Marshall Islands and Taiwan, symbolizing the deep friendship and ongoing exchanges between the two nations. This ceremonial paper-cutting artwork draws inspiration from the Marshall Islands’ tropical charm—its rustling banana leaves and gentle coconut rains—and evokes the oceanic bond often likened to a “Pacific Pearl.” It reflects the intricate beauty born from the interweaving of nature and culture.

At the heart of the composition are the portraits of President Hilda Heine and the First Gentleman, surrounded by motifs of coconut fronds, pandanus leaves, and other traditional plant-fiber weaving patterns—symbols of the resilience and wisdom of island peoples. Set against a backdrop of blue skies and crystal-clear seas, the piece conveys the pure and enduring connection between island nations, and stands as a symbol of Taiwan and the Marshall Islands moving forward hand in hand toward a sustainable future.
