CONCEPT

Hakka Roof’s Embrace Aboriginal Culture

The traditional ridge of Hakka architecture, the “Five Elements Mountain Wall,” is divided into shapes representing the horse’s back, symbolizing gold and wealth. It is a common and ancient ridge style in the Hakka region, safeguarding the family living under the eaves day after day, sheltering them from wind and rain, embracing the ordinary daily life and ambitious dreams. The artwork “Hakka Roof’s Embrace Aboriginal Culture ” takes inspiration from the horseback-shaped ridge and incorporates the rich totem culture of Taiwan’s sixteen indigenous aboriginal tribes. From the Bunun’s sheep’s foot diamond pattern, Paiwan’s hundred-step snake deity, Rukai’s pure lily, Atayal’s ancestral eyes, Amis’ cosmic stars, Saisiyat’s Thunder Goddess, to the Tao’s Ipanitika eye… these images enrich the beauty of the home and symbolize the harmonious and diverse multiculturalism of the Hakka people.
